Alvor, is well sign posted from Portimão (aprox. 5.5 km) and from Lagos (aprox. 20.5km). The town is excellently placed being built on a hillside leading down to the protected harbor on the estuary of the Ria Alvor, the town quay has been modernised over the last decade or so and now has a beautiful promenade with modern waterside bars were you can enjoy a coffee, beer, sangria or even a full meal overlooking the many local boats and even more visitors yachts swaying at anchor. Alvor is also well known for its beautifully colored small fishing boats, the boats are still very much about, but the fishermen now tend to use the much easier to look after modern fiberglass boats, and you can still see the fishermen preparing their catch, down by the fisherman's hut on the quay, ready to supply the restaurants. The town of Alvor, regarded by most people to be a quaint fishing village, but take a closer look, you will find terrific night life, with a great many bars including Irish bars, fantastic restaurants, and comfortable Apartments. Down by the quay you can find some of the best Fresh Fish Restaurants in the Algarve. Alvor with around 200 restaurants
and bars, has possibly the highest concentration of places to eat in the Algarve,
you can try anything from beautifully cooked fresh fish, grilled sardines
served with home made bread or boiled potatoes being a specialty to chicken
piri-piri, and lots of other traditional Portuguese dishes, or you could
visit one of the excellent Chinese or Indian restaurants, with so much
to choose from where do you start! |
